Our slitter is capable of cutting very large coils of steel into smaller widths. This process involves passing the steel through a very large and strong set of wheels or "knives". These knives do not actually cut the steel but rather they force it to shatter along the grain of the material, just like splitting wood
with an axe. The break is
relatively smooth but not entirely free of sharp burr or rough edge. If the steel is to be handled no slitter can
guarantee an edge that will not cut the handler, although good equipment and experienced operators such as those at Security Steel Processing can minimize the risks.
Advantages:
- Improved camber control on narrow widths.
- Narrow width capability and precise width control.
- In house edging capability, yielding lower costs.
- Lower material feed times compared with bar feed.
